Maroochydore is a popular holiday town located
at the heart of the attractive Moroochy region on the Sunshine
Coast, Queensland. Maroochydore offers an ideal location, situated
at the intersection between the ocean and the Maroochy River.
It is at the very centre of the Sunshine Coast, with Caloundra
to the south and Noosa to the north. Cotton Tree, an ocean-side
suburb on the Maroochy River, is a popular holiday spot, well-serviced
by holiday flats and a caravan park.
The rivermouth, which is a kite surfer's paradise, was once the
site of a large timbermill from where the local lumber was shipped
to Brisbane by paddle-steamer. There are river cruises, and great
fishing opportunities in this aquatic paradise.
The main surfing beach is obviously popular with surfers, although
Maroochydore also hosts a number of sheltered beaches popular
with families, along Cotton Tree Esplanade which is opposite the
Maroochy River. The beaches are backed by pretty parkland which
is ideal for picnics or walking.
The Maroochy region is blessed with 25 kilometres of golden sandy
beaches and inviting ocean. It embraces famous surf beaches like
Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Coolum and Maroochydore. To balance
the call of the sea, there is also 3722 hectare of municipal reserves
and 2000 hectare of national parkland.
Maroochydore is one of the Sunshine Coasts main business centres,
which features a refreshing blend of both business and tourism.
Maroochydore is home to a wide variety of small shopping boutiques
and fabulous restaurants, as well as some of the Sunshine Coast's
largest shopping centres. The Big Top Shopping Centre and the
Sunshine Plaza both feature a range of shopping and dining outlets.
There are plenty of attractions that you can enjoy at Maroochydore,
as well as a number of different festivals and competitions. Maroochydore
is home to a number of surfing and surf lifesaving events. Surfing
is a popular sport at Maroochydore, along with boating, fishing
and jet skiing.
Maroochydore offers a wide selection of beachfront and riverfront
accommodation to suit different styles and budgets. Accommodation
